Ask Me First, I Might Say YES

Weekly Photo Memes

It's really flattering to be receiving questions like, "are you a professional photographer?" For me it's some sort of validation that I'm doing something interesting, enough to capture their attention. But really, I'm no pro, not even near it. It's a hobby that I find so therapeutic just like blogging. It's one way of squeezing out my creative juices and sharing it to my friends.

Actually there are no secrets, a lot of helpful resources are available on the web guiding us how to come up with meaningful photos. Of course, familiarization with your camera, be it dslr or point and shoot, and knowing its functions are the initial steps followed by creativity, instinct and practice and ultimately a knowledge in photo editing will definitely create a big difference.

I've been introduced to Photoshop7 along with Illustrator since 1997, took a short course required for my work and since then had been very useful for me in many ways. Now there's Photoshop CS4, packed with more features but I'm still using my older version since I'm more familiar with it. Just recently, the in thing among photographers is LIGHTROOM.

What's the difference between Lightroom and Photoshop? Lightroom is where I manage my photos, from importing it from my camera to processing it and then showcasing from there all my images. It makes the life of any photographer more organized and more polished. While Photoshop is my major editing tool where I have the freedom to do anything I want to my subject.

Interested to know more about this and learn, you can sign up to this free webinar course for Photoshop and Lightroom. I've already enrolled for these two courses as I'm interested to bring my knowledge to a higher level. Just clicked on the image to direct you to their webpage. All the details are enumerated from there.

Well, do you think they are surprised? LOL, obviously they are just acting surprised. It has become a habit for us friends to have this kind of pose and you have to utter the words "NYEEH" before I clicked the shutter, hehehe. This was popularized in Pinoy comedy sitcoms and imitated by almost everyone who are trying to deliver a funny punchline but the response is Nyeeh! (read CORNY!) We actually call this Pinoy pose, and there is also Korean pose with the V sign with matching "pa cute" look! :D

Happy photohunting peeps! Check out the other entries here.

This week at Fix it Friday on I heart Faces, players can try their hands on making this already beautiful photo of a pretty young lady to something interesting and different.

Original Photo

Here are my treatments :
Using Lightroom, I cropped the photo above to focus on the beautiful subject, then I adjusted a bit of the exposure and added some black. I also adjusted the clarity to define the colors and make it more sharp.
Here, I want to provide some dreamy effect. Using Lightroom, I cropped the photo again, lessen the clarity to provide that dreamy effect and lessen the saturation, then used vignette.

If you want to see how others played visit I Heart Faces.

I missed food trip for two consecutive fridays. Now I'm here sharing my favorite cold drink, watermelon fruit shake, so refreshing and sweet.

YAMI tagged me to answer this question, How old is old?

I will quote Mark Twain to establish my idea.

"Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you dont mind it doesn't matter."

We can't deny the fact that everything goes south when we get older. Wrinkles showing up, joints cracking up and memory gaps occur more often. The physical eyesight declines but the spiritual eyesight improves and for me that is more essential. On this note, getting old is a phase that everyone should go through but not all has the privilege to experience. So when we do, we should embrace it fully by living healthy physically and spiritually while getting there, and when we've done a good job, we can be assured that it will be better than our youth.

"The face you have at age 25 is the face God gave you, but the face you have after 50 is the face you earned" - Cindy Crawford

So how old is old? It doesn't matter and I'd like to keep it that way :)

This is a contest created by Cathara Main. Visit her site for the mechanics.

I'm tagging this friends to find out their points of view; Acrylique , Rors, Chicpinay, OhMyGums and U. Pink.

Nostalgia is that sentimental yearning for happiness of a certain place or time. I had difficulty looking for a photo that would make me feel nostalgic, sure there are lots of them that needs to be dusted off in one corner of our house but that would trigger my allergy so I just scoured my computer archive to look for a photo that would bring back memories and this is the closest I got.....

My sister and I, with our childhood icons donald duck and daisy duck. Looking at this certainly brought back childhood memories. I grew up watching them on the boob tube together with mickey mouse and the other walt disney characters and always have this fervent wish to visit Disneyland and enjoy a moment with them. That wish took plenty of years to come true until Hongkong Disneyland opened up. It was a funny and ecstatic moment running after this characters in my adulthood feeling like a kid and lining up to have our photos taken. But that was all worth it and would still want to see Disneyland in Florida even if it would take me another plenty of years. :)

There are plenty of beautiful Nostalgia themed pictures here at .

Check them out!

This bug had difficulty flying when it fell into the pool, so it kept on circling around trying to stay afloat and thus creating ripples on the water.

Ripples is this week's photohunt theme. Check out more entries here.

Happy photohunting!

My first try to play fix it friday at I heart faces and below is the original photo of a young handsome man that will be the subject for our fix it friday entries.

ORIGINAL PHOTO

And here are my FIXES :

I use Lightroom to come up with the photo above, adjusted the exposure, fill in some lights and some blacks, adjusted the luminance and soften the skin using the adjustment brush. I also use Photoshop's unsharp mask to define the eyes.
On this one, I crop the picture and tilted it a bit. Played around the exposure, the saturation and clarity using Lightroom then processed it at Photoshop using curves, smart blur and unsharp mask.
Other creative fixes can be found here.

If you're in Facebook, you've probably came across the FB account of Old Philippines and now a fan. Can't help but feel nostalgic going thru the old pictures and videos of the Old Philippines. If I could only travel in time, the pre war era would be on the top of my list. The simple life, the uncluttered streets, the outfits, the transport system, the structures and the unpolluted environment ... oh what an ideal period to live in.

Whoever created that account in FB, kudos to you for giving us easy access to the glorious past of the Old Philippines. These are some of the photos that really captured my attention .....
I practically grew up in this area, attending sunday masses regularly at Sta Cruz Church with my family and doing our shopping in the Escolta area and to have a glimpse of how these places looked like decades before I was born just amazes me, especially the existence of tramvia as a means of transportation, wow!

Tramways and Calesas crossing what we call now Jones Bridge and Pasig River that looks clean is unimaginable nowadays.

We usually frequent Luneta Park after hearing Sunday mass when I was still a kid and this is how it was in 1900's.

Gloria Romero, the Queen of Philippine Movies during the 1950's in a Coke Advertisement. She's really beautiful....

If your still not a fan of Old Philippines Facebook account, what are you waiting for, check them out here and have a walk down memory lane.

fried rice

tofu steak

I met this cute kid while we were having lunch in one of the restos in D'Mall in Boracay. He readily got my attention with that cute curly locks he got. He was actually acting grumpy with his nanny so I offered him a chocnut candy and that was the look I got.... yeah he accepted the chocnut and then asked for more :D ....

For more crazy, silly and funny faces, you've got to head on to I Heart Faces!

This is the kind of view I got when our plane was flying LOW and circling around for like 20 mins before landing in Busuanga Airport in Palawan. Isn't that awesome!!!

For more interpretations of the theme LOW, go check out Photohunt!

Happy Photohunting everyone! :)

Sometimes, I find it more fun to just stay home on a friday night especially if it coincided with payday 'coz that means heavy traffic and crowded gimmick places. Ordering pizza delivery while on the comforts of our living room is my best option while having a DVD movie marathon with my sisters and cousins until the wee hours of the morning and then waking up late on Saturday ... Just Perfect for me! :)

It's been a while since I posted a tag. I received some but for some reasons, I can't do it right away but I really appreciate the thoughts, I'll do it in time :) . Just got this from Yami today and reposting it today is just perfect since the answer is just lying beside me....

Here are the rules:

1. Collect the book that you have most handy
2. Turn to page 161
3. Find the 5th complete sentence
4. Cite the sentence on your blog
5. Pass it on to 5 other Bloggers

The book most handy to me is the Bible, its actually lying just next to this laptop.

The fifth complete sentence on page 161 is actually from the book of Numbers chapter 9 verse 18 and it reads ....

"At the Lord's command the Israelites set out, and at his command they encamped. As long as the cloud stayed over the tabernacle they remained in camp."

This speaks to me about obedience, following Gods directions to ensure our safety. Sometimes we choose to ignore God's words and that brings us to different kinds of troubles. As a reminder to me I should always seek His guidance before doing anything, learning to entrust my cares on the Lord as everything is up to HIM ....

This week at I heart faces, everyone is sharing their summer stories through a series of photos. Our summer in Boracay is my contribution .....

To get a good view of Boracay, we visited Mt. Luho, Boracay's highest elevation with a viewing tower and a walk way. From here, we had a nice view of the Bolabog beach, the Fairways and Blue Water Golf Resort and of course the ocean. To get there we hired an All Terrain Vehicle for 500 pesos each.

It was my first time to ride an ATV and traversed a rugged terrain and it was all worth it ....

Getting henna tattoos have become a popular must do when you visit the beach, so I had one for myself ...

Even if it was raining and the sand can really get harsh when the wind blows, we sure had fun!!! .........
And who could resist the best milkshake in Boracay!
And if your built for this, Boracay boasts of water activities for the water sports enthusiasts ...We still managed to catch the sunset even if there was typhoon at that time, it was not as glorious as it used to be but still beautiful ....

Night life is alive in Boracay. You can party all night, lucky for us, it was not raining from 10pm onwards and so we treated ourselves to some acoustic sounds and some drinks ...

And my most treasured moment is some quiet moment after taking a bubble bath, thanking my Father up above for the opportunity to be one with nature and enjoy this beautiful experience.

Come visit and join the fun here!!!
